LOCH TRAIL CUP 2026

MAY 22 – 23 – 24, 2026

LOCH TRAIL CUP – RUN OF LEGENDS

LOCH TRAIL CUP – RUN OF LEGENDS even before a Trail Running sporting event, aspires to be a journey to rediscover the places of memory, history and those traditions that so deeply shaped the territory of the Highlands Cimbre. We wish to offer athletes not only transit through iconic sites of the Great War, such as the Rossapoan Batteries, Fort Verena and Fort Campolongo, but also passages through the most hidden meanders of the mountain territory, places such as karst chasms, also known as "lochs," are large holes or caverns that form when the roof of a karst cave collapses. This phenomenon is common in limestone areas such as the Asiago Plateau, where rainwater, slightly acidic, dissolves limestone, creating underground caves. When these caves become too large and their roofs can no longer support the weight, they collapse, forming a sinkhole. A famous example is the Stonhaus chasm, also known as the "ogre house," which is surrounded by local legends and myths. These chasms are not only interesting geologically, but also culturally, as they are often linked to local stories and traditions handed down by the ancient inhabitants and survived to the present day, mainly in the form of Cimbrian toponymy. To top it off, the route will take competitors on a dive into the evocative depths of the Val d'Assa, a canyon of glacial origin, of great importance both from an archaeological, prehistoric point of view, and for the unusual bio-diversity linked to the flora and fauna present, to be admired and respected.
